long hair Chihuahua

Hi, my name is Lisa, and Chelsea is my first Chi. We had been breeding and showing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels until one day we decided to foster some puppies from our local shelter. One was a terrier/ chi mix. The tiniest, cutest thing ever. Also very sick. My daughter and I took turns nursing this poor dog back to health. I took her everywhere with me and she was a very social puppy. The lady at the bank was going to adopt her. I took her back to the shelter where she was suppose to get her shots, spayed and sent home with my friend.

Days passed and I did not hear from her. When I called I found out they had put that puppy down because they found a spot on her ear that was ringworm!!! I was horrified and sick! How could they do this to that tiny puppy. I just remember her tail wagging as I left her with the lady. It still upsets me. I was so upset for so long I told my husband I wanted a chihuahua. Now mind you, we had 5 Cavaliers at the time. But I just loved how little my visitor was and I wanted another. I felt really guilty because I thought about keeping her myself and if I had done that than I would have taken her to MY vet where the ringworm would have been treated, and she would still be alive.

So I researched breeders and found one an hour and a half away. My daughters and I drove out to “see” the puppies, annnddd….one came home with us!! She is the love of my life. Chelsea is MY dog thru and thru. She follows me around, (right into the bathroom too), and watches for me at the window when I am gone. I have been told that she mopes around when I am gone. I just love her to pieces. Chi’s are such a unique breed. So much fun.

When we first brought her home, she found this old ratty toy on the floor and declared it as hers. She would carry this thing around with her all over. Still does, when she wants you to play with her. But back when she was a puppy, she would actually “put” it places! The picture here she is putting it in my son’s gym bag! I have also found it in my potted plants, stuffed in between cushions, under pillows, inside shoes. She finally put it someplace I could not find. I had to go to the fabric store and buy some fake fur and make her another one. Luckily she took to it. She is my girl!

Thanks for reading my Chihuahua Story.

Funny the lost toy reminded me of my old dog Lady. She had a hard rubber red ball she loved. It got lost sometime in January. She looked for it daily for months. I tried several other similar balls, nothing replaced it. The next Christmas we were unpacking Christmas stuff and there was the ball, Christmas came early for Lady. She slept with the ball near her for several weeks and never lost track of it after getting it back. Over 20 years and I still laugh at she love that ball.

Hi My Name is Kim and my Chihuahua is Pea. I was looking for a small dog that would sit on my lap. I checked into yorkies and chihuahuas. My husband and i went to several pet stores looking for just the right dog for me and although they had plenty of puppies i never found the one that I wanted or should I say the one that wanted me. I looked up breeders on both breeds and of course there were none close to where I lived. I finally checked craigs list where I had never been before I found a foster home for dogs only 15 minutes from my home. I called and learned that they had a couple of small dogs. My husband and I set up an appointment. When we arrived I saw a small mocha colored chi. I looked at my husband and said that is what I am looking for. The lady put Pea in my arms and apparently I was what Pea was looking for. The lady explained that she had been a puppy mill breeder dog and was 5 years old. I didn't care that she wasn't a puppy she was cuddled in my arms.

We took her to our vet who gave her her shots and noticed her stomach area was very tender he said she should be spayed. When they went to spay her they found that her uterus was filling with pus and there was a sign of infection he did a hysterectomy on my little Pea. It took two long weeks for my Little Pea to heal. Now she is a healthy happy Chihuahua and the love of my life she follows me everywhere and I do mean everywhere. Thank you so much for taking the time to Read Pea's story if you are looking for a Chihuahua please consider rescuing one they make great companions. They will love you unconditionally. Kim Blair

Hi Kim == what a great story == I got my first real chi 4 yrs ago - her owner had died and no one wanted her at Foster care bec she was 9 yrs old -- HA !! I was 60 so I thought well we can just grow old together ! I had always had mostly chi mixes/terriers etc -- but never the real thing till 2009 so basically I waited almost 55+ yrs for her -- her owner had died and the husband was afraid she would bite the grandchildren== so then I came along looking on the Internet for rescues -- there she was and guess what? she looks like a twin to Pea except my Ciara is fatter and older she's 14 and doing well-- she did have dental suregery March 4 & lost 17 teeth -- I felt so bad - she never let me know she was in pain-and the Vet says it is very common among chi's and actually was very good she kept them that long-- I had taken her in 2010 for dental cleaning and they saved her teeth then=== anyway other than that ? she plays ball like a pup-- puts the ball in your hand or chair --someone spent a lot of time with her and taught her many things -- so I was so pleasantly surprised how smart she is -- we have some mean-ness at night from her abut it's always when she is awakened from sleepng -- so I'm happy and so is she << she follows me like second skin everywhere -- amazing -- hugs, Rikki Renshaw
