The Chihuahua may be small, but caring for one can feel like a full-time job! From feeding and grooming to exercise, it seems like the list never ends. Luckily, there are some clever tricks to help streamline your routine and reclaim precious hours. Get ready to be the envy of all your dog-loving friends with these time-saving hacks!

In this blog post, we’ll dive into nine unconventional strategies that every Chihuahua owner should know. Prepare to challenge your assumptions and rethink how you’ve been handling your tiny pup’s needs. Who knew taking care of your Chihuahua could be this efficient—and fun?

1. Automated Feeding Systems

If you haven’t yet explored the world of automated feeders, you’re in for a treat. These devices are game-changers for busy pet owners. Choose a model that allows you to schedule feedings and control portions, ensuring your Chihuahua stays on a balanced diet without the hassle.

Picture this: you’re running late in the morning, but you don’t need to worry about your pup’s breakfast. With an automated feeder, your Chihuahua’s meal is ready even before getting out of bed. It’s an investment in both time-saving and peace of mind!

Now, in full clarity, I have to admit that I have never used one for my own dogs since I make their food, and these feeders are for kibble. But I do a lot of pet sitting, and several clients have them. They make things so easy.

2. Streamline Grooming with Dry Shampoo

Tired of bath time battles? Dry shampoo can be your secret weapon. Ideal for quick clean-ups in between baths, it offers a fresh coat without the suds and drama. Just a spritz, a massage, and your Chihuahua is good to go!

I will often use dry shampoo in the winter. I do want to point out if you aren’t familiar with dry shampoo, the name is a misnomer. At least it is for dry shampoo for dogs. Depending on the brand, it’s usually either a spray or a foam. You work it into your dog’s fur and leave it in for a few minutes. Then you just brush it out. This is the one I like for my dogs.

Give this hack a try and enjoy less time cleaning and more time cuddling!

3. Utilize Dental Chews for Oral Care

Brushing your Chihuahua’s teeth can be a daunting task, but dental chews make oral hygiene a breeze. These handy treats combat plaque and tartar while doubling as a tasty snack. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone!

I have to admit that I don’t have the time or the energy to fight 4 dogs with brushing their teeth. I’m also too lazy to be honest.

My dogs have used Ark Naturals dental chews for years to keep their teeth sparkling clean. There are other good ones out there. These are just the ones I like. My dogs range in age between 4 and 10 and so far, none have had any dental problems.

It’s an easy adjustment to your routine that packs a punch in terms of health and time efficiency. Happy pup, happy life!

4. Use a Pet Sling for Errands

Why not turn errands into an adventure by bringing your Chihuahua along in a pet sling? This hands-free hack allows you to go about your day while keeping your little companion safe and comfy.

Thousands of Chihuahua owners already swear by the convenience a sling offers, especially during busy weekends. Picture yourself tackling your to-do list while your furry friend takes in the sights. Now that’s killing two woes with one stone!

5. Quick Playtime with Interactive Toys

Interactive toys are perfect for tapping into your Chihuahua’s playful spirit while saving you time. These toys stimulate their minds and offer exercise, reducing the need for longer play sessions when you’re short on time.

Consider products that combine puzzles with treats to keep your pup entertained. Many owners have found them to be lifesavers when multitasking, ensuring their dogs remain mentally active and content even during hectic days.

6. Meal Prep for Your Chihuahua

Just like meal prepping makes human life simpler, it does wonders for pet care. Prepare your Chihuahua’s meals in advance to free up time during busy weeks and ensure your pet gets a healthy, balanced diet without the daily fuss.

Blend up your dog’s favorite dishes and store them in freezer-safe containers. You’ll marvel at how much easier mealtime can be. This hack is beloved by busy parents and professionals looking for sanity in their schedule.

I do this for my dogs every Sunday.

7. Create a Care Calendar

Keeping track of appointments, dietary needs, and grooming sessions can get overwhelming. Enter the care calendar. A visual organizer that details all essential care aspects for your Chihuahua saves time and keeps you stress-free.

Include important reminders, from visits to the vet to flea treatments. A care calendar helps you provide consistent care and, more importantly, preserves your peace of mind by preventing important dates from slipping away unnoticed.

Some veterinarians, such as mine, use a phone app called Pet Desk that keeps track of their appointments and lets you know when they need to come in for a routine check-up or vaccine. I can even make my appointment through the app. It also has their records on it, so it’s easy to look up information.

Then, for routine things, such as Lucas’ two insulin shots a day, I have a reminder set up in my phone so I don’t forget.
