I don’t know about you, but I find it adorable and sometimes humorous to see cute little doggy tongues peeking out (and sometimes hanging out) of their mouths.
Do you ever wonder why dogs often have their tongues sticking out? There are various reasons. Sometimes they are just panting because they are hot. Sometimes they are missing some teeth, and so the tongue hangs out where the teeth would normally hold it in.
Sometimes it’s due to age, or a birth defect, an overbite or underbite, certain medications, or injury. And sometimes they just are more comfortable with their tongue hanging out a little.
If they do it all the time, check to make sure their tongue is not cracked or swollen. This is called Hanging tongue syndrome and can cause them considerable pain. It’s similar to we humans getting a painful case of chapped lips.

This sweet Chi girl is named Ally. Her mom is Lawanda Vermillion Walker.
The big guy is Thor. I don’t know the name of his little friend. Connie Finnegan is their mom.

This adorable little guy is Monte. Monte is the ‘shop dog’ at the grooming salon where his mom, Melodie French, works at. Melodie says he loves going to work with her. Monte is also 4 years old and a rescue.
Teelee belongs to Edward Claymore Iomc Zickuhr. Teelee loves ham, and his dad, Edward, says he’s spoiled rotten!
Diamond is 4 days old in this photo. What a sweet little pup! Stacy DeVries is the pet parent.
Taquito looks like he’s blowing raspberries here. Kenzie Treese is the mom.
Mr. Darcy’s photo wasn’t very clear, but he’s such a little cutie, I had to include it. Sally Silis is his mommy.
I don’t know this Chihuahua’s name, but he or she belongs to Lisa Cooper.
We have another Chihuahua named ChiChi. I’m not sure of the gender, but this adorable Chihuahua reminds me of a little teddy bear. Tracy Wong is the pet parent.
This Chihuahua makes me laugh! He or she belongs to Jill Elizabeth.
I don’t know who this little darling is, but the pet parent is Deana Parks.
This is little Lemur sticking her tongue out. Amanda Marie Ponce Saldana is her mom.
This is Chico the Chihuahua, and his mom is Destiny Ahaus.
Here is Zoe enjoying the beautiful day. Her mom is Kathy Haldeman, and she says Zoe has a heart of gold.
Mary Silvia is the mom of little Buddy here.
Beebee the Chihuahua is a whopping 3 and a half pounds. Brooke McDonald is her mom.

My Bruiser’s tongue doesn’t hang out, but you can be sure, as soon as he gets in touch with any skin, he’s lick lick licking away. Love kisses, but enough is enough! LOL!
LOL, yeah some of them seem to take licking too far. We must taste good to them.
My apple head, Boo, almost always has the tip of her tongue sticking out of her mouth, but my deer head never does. I’ve come to the conclusion that the apple head’s tongue is just to big for those little mouths to keep it contained, lol.
You may be on to something Bonnie. I can see where their mouths would be too small to hold their tongues in.
Oh, what sweetness!!! I love the little Diamond girl, wouldn’t I love to have her!!!! I have had 5 chi babies and none of them let their tongue hang out. I would have liked it if they would have. Lucy is looking as pretty as ever. She is one of the prettiest chi babies I have ever seen. Thanks, Cathy, for another great send!!!

This is my precious baby Poppy who just passed away on February 7th. She was a special needs Chi who gave me 3 years of happiness.
She was a pretty girl Ellen. I’m so sorry you lost her.
My heart is shattered. I just lost JoJo on Nov 20th. But Poppys death was sudden. She was such a very special little girl as was JoJo.

Thank you for your kind words. I miss her every day. My home is empty without her. Poppy was a rescue who had been abused. She was deaf and brain damaged but she made more progress than I ever imagined possible. JoJo had heart problems for over a decade. But he lived for over 15 years. I had him since the day he was born. Now he’s with his parents.

I adored these little chis with their tongues sticking out. My little Chi, Mitzie, has an overbite and doesn’t stick her tongue out unless she has eaten something. Then she licks her chops! Lol
