I need guidance on this. I have a quiet, well mannered male chihuahua who is 8 years old. Peanuts has lost two of my family members and has had his heart broken. He loves me the most!

I brought a baby girl chihuahua into the house and she loves him. Wants to play all day, and is trying to gain ground in her ranking in the pack. She wants to wake him up at 4:30 when she gets up with me (Peanuts joins us about 6:00 am) She is now 9 months old and pushes toys in his face and chases him and bites and holds onto his tale. Most of the time he loves it and plays back, but when he has had enough he puts the law down by nipping at her. Never hurts her but she knows he is done playing for at least 10 minutes and it starts all over again. 1. Should I interfere with a water filled squirt bottle to stop this behavior or just let Peanuts put Pepper in her place? 2. Should I take both of them for training?

I love both of them to the heavens. Peanuts loves Pepper and when she gets hurt or cries, he is the first on the spot to see if she needs anything. But I feel so guilty for bringing her into the house; it was so he would have a companion but she is so darn pushy and pushes him to the side when I am giving out kisses and brushing them or throwing toys. She always wants the one he wants.

Training is always a good idea for all dogs. I actually think they are adjusting pretty well with each other. She's a puppy so of course she is more active and he is showing her (just like her mother would as a baby) that she needs to calm down and give him a break. As long as no one is getting hurt, I'd let Peanuts put her in her place.
