Benny the Chihuahua

In January 2012 my dog Benny (13 yrs old) passed away after only eight short months of being with us. He was found as a stray by a local Las Vegas rescue.

I was extremely depressed and lost 20 lbs in only two weeks. I couldn’t work or function. I decided the best way to pay tribute to Benny was to adopt another dog and give it the loving home Benny had.

After 3 weeks of grieving I went out to all the rescues and shelters looking for my new family member. I knew I wasn’t ready but had to keep my doggie routine going. I also figured caring for another baby would help me cope by distracting me.

I found Quartz now named Zeppy at the same rescue as Benny. He was emaciated, infested with fleas, and had kennel cough.

After we adopted him he was so sick he spent the first week at the veterinarians office. We visited him every day.

When we brought him home it took a while for me to bond with him. He wanted to fight with every dog he saw. Slowly but surely he stole my heart. Our love wasn’t instant like with Benny. But did Zeppy steal my heart. They always say “slow and steady wins the race,” well slow and steady won my heart.”

He is by far the most adventurous and smartest dog I have ever known. He loves playing with other dogs too. His favorite all time activity is SWIMMING. Can you believe that? A chihuahua that loves to swim…lol.

I have had him for about 3 year now and he has quickly become my best friend. We are inseparable. I couldn’t imagine my life without him.

After losing my Chihuahua, 8-Ball, I began to pine away from the long search for another Chihuahua. Then, one night, there was Bella on my computer screen. I arranged to see her the next day and, of course, brought her home. We have been together for 10 years now. Our home was destroyed in the Camp Fire in November 2018, and I can truthfully say she is my rock and the reason I am still here. We will be in our new home in about a month. I plan on making every single day special for my sweet little girl.
