Thank you for joining us Leann!
Hi Cathy I just wanted to say I absolutely love this breed and have adopted all five of my chihuahuas from different rescue groups but all my chihuahuas are senior and or special needs…. I love everyone of them…
Thank you for giving elderly and special need chis a home. We need more people like you.
Hi Kathy this is Liz a new member this is my first pet and all praise be to God I’ve become very blessed with her her name is diamond and she brings you so much joy there’s two things I would like to ask you she doesn’t like dog food maybe you can send me some recipes human food that’s good for her and her vitamins and digestible that I can make for her and she has problems expressing her anal glands and I was wondering is there a video or something that shows me how to do it myself I am a certified nursing aide so I don’t have to take her to the vet it’s overwhelming to her and she trusts me enough to do it I’m glad I’m a member God bless
Hi Liz, thanks for joining us!
This video will show you how to express Diamond’s anal glands: https://youtu.be/VXpIYcWpkBo
As for dog food, one that just about every dog likes is Royal Canine chihuahua. You can find it at PetSmart, PetCo or online at Chewy.com or even Amazon.
Personally I feed my dogs a fresh home delivery food called Ollie and have also used The Farmer’s Dog with good results.
If you’d rather make your own, check out this article: https://www.thedogbakery.com/blogs/news/top-20-healthy-homemade-dog-food-recipes-your-dog-will-love
We feed our little one the same dry food plus the vet said to boiled boneless, skinless chicken breast. We combine the two and feed her three small portions a day. For treats we give her little doggie bone cookies we get from the feed store.
My vet says scrambled eggs with no butter, green peas or baked chicken cut up small is ok for my Riley when he turns away dog food sometimes. Also, have you tried Royal Canin food just for Chi’s? It is easy to digest.
Good advice Linda.
I use Royal Canin for Chi, both wet and dry, my dog loves it.
Just a thought, my baby is 15 last month. He’s been eating wellness for small breeds. He would go a few days without eating as a pup. A young girl at a dogmart can’t remember which one, suggested wellness. Seemed like it has a lot of good stuff in it before other dog food companies caught on. Now that he’s older and has less teeth I put a few sprinkles of warm water on it. He sometimes has a little milk or a bite size piece of hamburger crumbled in. Whatever he seems to like I’ll switch off and on different foods. It makes sense to me, eating the same thing all the time but when you see what they like and incorporate it into the dog food he’s healthy and has the energy of a yr old pup. I used to have to sit with him to eat and encourage him. But though it’s the only one and I’ve tried them all, he maintains a good weight and I can tell he feels good. That’s what works for me. I’d get him whatever he needs wellness is his choice. Can get at chewy.com or most PetSmart. His name is Eugene and he’s my amazing best friend β€οΈ
Good info, thanks for sharing!
I am looking for a Chihuahua to adopt but I canβt seem to find a good price for a female if you could help me that be wonderful and itβs a journey for me too to find out right one thank you
Sorry Arthur, I don’t know how to help you to find a chihuahua to buy. I would say check the breeder page on the Chihuahua Club of America but they are probably pretty expensive.
Here’s the link though if you’d like to check: http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.org/breeder-directory/
she said adopt, but you still pay to adopt, mine cost me a whopping 300.00 to adopt, and they sell for 200 and up,
My friend adopted her two purebred Chihuahuas from a rescue group focusing on the breed. Of course they do not have papers and do not compete in shows . They were adopted as young adults but there are no behavior or medical problems to speak of. It depends what your intentions are. If you want to compete or breed this would not work for you. Animals that are adopted this way will still COST an adoption fee that includes most likely shots and spaying and neutering, but it is way less the buying an animal. I have a half chihuahua he is very cute too, he was an oops breeding.
What magnificent ears! Thanks for sharing Alexandra and you made some excellent points.
Cathy
I don’t know how old my girl Rolling Stones is. I know I’ve had her for ten years. I took her away from a woman that was abusing her very bad. She’s spoiled rotten now tho but shes having some problems where she gets stuck pacing repetitively and she’s stuck doing for hours. She got stuck walking backwards in a circle once for six hrs. This morning she couldn’t get up and she can’t see her food or me. She’s wobbly and disoriented but she’s not in pain. What’s going on with my girl??
She may have Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (Canine Dementia) which is kind of like Alzheinmers for dogs. She really needs to see a vet as there are drugs that are pretty effective for this. Much more than the drugs they give to Alzheimers patients.
keep an eye on the animal shelters, harder to find there as they are second in line for elimination, pit bulls are first, but if you can find one, my shelter costs 100 to adopt, just been hard to find one
I am thrilled to find a Chi group!
Rocky Balboa is the light of my life
He is my first dog
He is 9
I am 85
Why did I wait so long entertained by cats??
Thanks so much for joining us!
That was ay experience to my chihuahua was my first dog after many years as a cat person and he reformed me.

Thanks for joining us Theresa! Wow, 5 chis! What are their names?
Chihuahuas are Top dogs….. Lost my darling of 16 years in 2018, a sweetheart, had an extrodinaire Life !!! As of recent adopted a SENIOR RESCUE CHIHUAHUA, aged 10y. Was ONLY NEUTERED 8months ago and he is a real sweetheart !!!
He was in a shelter 4mnths before I received him and should** weigh tops 7 lbs and he IS 11 lbs !!! We are OUT EVERY DAY walking, he taking the lead willingly. I have him on ROYAL CANIN 1/4 CUP morning & 1/4 CUP evening. No human food, apart from tbsp apple daily.
Could his present weight be from LATE NEUTERING ?
ps he was in a loving home-family-fire victims.
Appreciate knowing,
Sherry
I have two adorable chihuahuas but one just came down with seizures. On meds now but still worried.
Of course you are worried. I was too with my terri-poo and even though he lived to a ripe old age of almost 19, I still got upset every time he had a seizure.
We own 10 beautiful chihuahua’s. We love them so much they are our kids now. Our children are grown now.
Wow Mary! 10 chis! I’m jealous. Bear is adorable!
We have had Chihuahuas dogs for all 52 years weβve been married. Right now we are owned by three females and one male. They range in age from three years to 11. All spayed n one male whose neutered! They are very protective of each other n me. They love our older grandkids but are very nervous around little ones. Our youngest great grandkids are babies n tend to grab our fur babies if I take my eye off them.our kids think our pups should be punished for getting pinched or ears n hair pulled. I refuse as they react to being kicked at or hair pulled. We told them no punisentsc for defending themselves. Babes-toddlers can be taught to be nice to tiny 2-3 pound pups! What do you say?
I agree with you Mikki. It’s best to keep tiny tots away from the pups but if they are hurting them, then the dogs have a right to defend themselves.
I started when my kids and grandkids were babies to be gentle by guiding their hands to gently pet a dog and say “gentle” as we do it. Eventually they catch on, except my 3 year old grandson who is developmentally delayed and on the spectrum. I’m still working with him but my dogs have pretty much learned to stay away from him when he is here. And I never leave him alone with them.
My chi is no longer having seizures since I took him off nexgard but he is on very small dose of phenobarbital. Vet wants to cut him down off meds soon or almost down to very little.
I have heard of those type of flea meds causing issues like seizures. I’m glad they have stopped and your vet is going to cut back on the seizure meds too. Thanks for updating us Sandra.
My little Rose had seizures and we had her on small amount of phenobarbital she lived 17 years. Rose still had seizures but not as bad and not that often..
That’s a good age to live considering she had seizures.
Hello, I put my chi on Trifexus, not good one had seizures. they are on Revolution now.
but my chi has to stay on Phenobarbital.
I’m so sorry your baby had a bad reaction. They need to take that off the market. Too many dogs have had bad reactions to it.
CBD oil is extremely affective at stopping seizures in animals and people.Certainly worth looking into as there are no side effects
Yes, it doesn’t help with all seizures but it does help with many of them. Definitely worth a try.
Sandra , try Pet CBD , Cbd is good for seizures, I have 9 Chi, Chi mix, and also a son with seizures, read up on Cbd for pets. You can get it a lot of places, and not trying to make a sale but I just opened a site for Cbd, itβs called hemp gods miracle, and I carry Cbd hemp for pets, and use it on my own dogs, I can not say it will help or cure your baby, but hemp is know for helping with seizures., so if you would like to even just get information from my site, please go ahead, http://www.hempgodsmiracle.com, the products listed give you information. I hope your baby is ok.
My chi,is 3 he has Ben gasping for breath and sometimes it looks like he’s having a seizure along with it I just want to know what I can do for him and I am not a rich person thank you
The gasping could be part of a seizure or it could be something else altogether. I hate to tell you, but the only the way to know for sure is to see a vet. It could be serious.
Check out this article for help with vet care: https://ilovemychi.com/what-to-do-when-you-cant-afford-vet-care/
My little girl had those seizures for a while took her to vet gave me medications did no good, Then I noticed as I brushed her teeth seizures went down instead of 1 a week she had one a month but she still had seizures. Then I got smart and made a chart of every time she had seizure and also I put what she ate everyday for about 6 months and then I noticed —–EVER TIME she ate food WITH POTATOES IN IT SHE WOULD HAVE A SEIZURE LATER THAT DAY OR THE NEXT DAY so then I started reading what the was in the food she ate and there was a lot of dogfood with potatoes in it. So I started buying food WITHOUT potatoes in it and her seizures are no more. But to make sure I was right I waited about 3 months and fed her some food with potatoes in it and she a seizure later that day. So then I waited 3 more months again and she had no seizures. So I fed her some food with potatoes in and it she had a seizure about 6 hours later. So now she gets FOOD WITH NO POTATOES IN IT. So my recommendations is to make a graph of when she has seizures and what she eats and see if you notice anything about her seizure pattern of what she eats and when she has seizures or your dog might have them because of fears. But I think she might be having them according to what she is eating I have helped 5 other people it was all food related for their dogs could be wrong but worth investigating like I did. Thanx Bobby
Thanks for telling us about that Bobby. Hopefully it will help someone else

Dear friend
Good afternoon
I would like to know
What kind of dog do you feeding baby chihuahua… It’s seem like my 4years old baby peanut is allergic to wet chicken.
I try him on royal cannin mini kibbles he did not want to eat it’s. Keep on itching alot he weight9lbs 9ounce and advice greatly appreciated it your help l give him Nequard for flea and ticks.
It sounds like Peanut has a lot of allergies so you may need to start making his food. You could see how he does on eggs. Also add a little beef and some veggies such as green beans, carrots, pumpkin.
Or if you really rather buy premade, you may want to try what I’m using for my dogs. It’s human grade and they ship it to you. They have different varieties so you can skip ordering the chicken.
It’s not cheap though. It runs about $17. per week per dog. It’s called The Farmer’s Dog and my dogs like it better than anything else they have tried
Stop feeding your chihuahuas dog please. Lol
Huh?
I love my chi, his name Jack and eight years old.
I like the name Jack for a chi
I feed my Chi Science diet. It was recommended by his vet. He weigh 4.6 lbs was 3 years old Christmas eve. He goes with me almost everywhere. His name is Rascal and he lives up to the name.

Such a handsome boy! How old is he?
@Cathy, Hello Cathy, I am a military veteran and I have a male Chi which I found under my truck which I found out later that he belong to my neighbor. He was in a large bird cage with other small dogs. Now I have him for 11 years and he was a blessing from heaven. His name is Hobie, I kept his original name. We have been traveling all over the US for my VA Medical job. He enjoyed our adventures and travel by our Jeep Wrangler. I love your your website!
What a great story Kenneth! I’m so glad you saved him from a life living in a bird cage.
Thank you Kathy. I have two chis. One long hair red and white (4years) and one smooth coat fawn puppy (3 months) ????

We are adopting two brothers in the beginning of June. Weβve had rescue dogs but never puppies and never Chihuahuas. Would love a how to for the first eight weeks of having a new Chihuahua puppy! From potty training, crate training, feeding, etc. Thank you!
Congrats on your soon to be new babies Sheri! Check out this page that has all our posts for parents of puppies:
https://ilovemychi.com/chihuahua-puppies/
I have rescued/taken 6 chis from abusive people I also have 2other chis I’ve had 2 men arrested for animal cruelty my cookie was shot in her left hip with a derenger pistol I called police he was arrested and is currently serving his 3 years, another young punk through my Bitsy Bella against a metal building causing her right eye to bleed police called he is serving his 2 years …. and i didnt ask i just took those precious babies and gave them Dr visits unfortunately cookie still has her bullet , she could loose her leg if its removed so she just plays as is, my Bitsy Bella had to have surgery on her eye and she came out in good shape… all of my chis were abused in some way, breed machine, chicken guard dog, outside 24/7 rain, sleet, snow, or what never got touched never barked never played or loved just through another dog in breed n feed chicken bones, n fish bones.. therefore I now have 8 chi rescues and 1 golden retriever rescue she was left at Wal-Mart with a note ” stupid dog hope it gets dead” it is into trash and everything
It amazes me how cruel people can be towards animals. So sad. I’m glad you gave these fur babies a good home.
I have a chihuahua as well she is my whole life.
She’s gorgeous!
I love seeing all the Chi photos and keeping up with the adventures of the Chi world. My life is definitely better with my own Chi…….
I Love chiwawas theare so lovable I’ll 70 yrs and I’m trying to find one to keep me company
PLEASE get a rescue they are so in need of a home. I hear Chihuahua are #1 in kill shelters. Any chance you would consider 2?
I would, live in Cheektowaga NY would like some information…..Sandy Nagel
Olga, here’s a breed specific rescue page. You can easily click your own, and any other state you’re willing to travel to. Chi’s are 2nd in euthanization only to pit bulls/ bully breeds. If you’re simply looking for a companion please do rescue!
http://chihuahua.rescueme.org
Ps. Pictured is my #3 chi, Trixie β‘
i WILL I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA IF YOU KNOW OF ANY THAT NEEDS RESCUED
There are special shelter homes that have senior Chihuahuas for adoption, that what we did about three years ago when we adopted Holly (we changed their names) who is 14 years old and still is sprite. Then we also adopted Daisy at the same time and who is 12 years old and loves to chase geckos. Both Holly and Daisy were both abused and abandoned before we got them. Daisy had a rough time because when she was rescued she gave birth to puppies that did not survived. She was so depressed for months and we did not realize that as we thought she was more laid back than Holly was. But after much loving and cuddling she came out of it and started to chase our cats Smokey and Flora and hunt the geckos (no she has not caught a gecko thank goodness). Also when Holly and Daisy first arrived home there was only one accident. It is great to adopt a senior dog or cat! Just go on line and say you are looking for senior Chihuahuas in your home state within a certain mileage and a page or so that is what we did. Good Luck!q
Bless you Yvonne for rescuing your senior chis. They are often hard to adopt out.
I live in Australis but it’s hard to get a rescue chi And here ppl charge so much to buy one most ppl can’t afford it …which is very sad
That is a shame Sandra.
I have 7 chiβs. Mostly all were fostered fails. Each are unique with there own lil personalities. I love my chiβs….
They are a special breed!
This is my service dog Neffie, her full name is bigger than she is (Nefertiti). She is the Queen in our home. She is with me 24/7, and yes she sleeps snuggled against my back so she can wake my husband up before my Blood Sugar gets too high or low. She has been doing this for 8yrs.
What a wonderful little pup and she’s so pretty too! It amazes me how dogs can pick up on illness before we can.
So glad to be here
We’re so glad to have you here Trish!
My chi Chikito was attacked last night by 2 pitbulls. He is in pain and traumatized. Thank God It wasn’t as bad that I thought. He is resting comfortable. The pain killer is helping him with pain and helping him relax.
Oh wow! I’m so sorry Wanda. I’m glad it wasn’t too bad and that he is resting comfortably.
I know how frightening dog attaches can be. My neighbor sent his 30lb dog out to attach my 6.5lb little one when weβre out for a walk. The man was mentally unstable however, since then my dog is not friendly with other dogs, whereas before she love being at the park with other dogs.
Poor baby idont like seeing animals get hurt how is it now hope she get better
She is still very scared of other dogs even though the attack took place several years ago. When the attack took place she was on a leash. She ran in circles and ended up so tight around my ankles that I had a hard time getting her free while fending off the other dog. The man stayed on his porch laughing. She had nightmares for quite sometime as she acted out in her sleep. Our vet said it was a very traumatic event that will always stay with her.
Did your Chi have to have any stitches? Two pit bulls can do a lot of damage. Keep her on your lap as much as you can, the best way to help them feel safe and relaxed. Hope your Chi gets better.
Thank you for your kind words. She is with me 24/7. She sleeps between my husband and me on her own pillow so she can alert my husband before I have any blood sugar issues. Because she is a service dog, she goes with me everywhere including church.
you should carry a small tin of travel deodorant with lid off and any dog that comes near your chi to attack spray it in the eyes.. That’s the humane way.
I never thought of that Julie.
Yes thatβs the humane way haha my breeder said the in humane way is to dig your fingers into the dogβs eyes -OMG!! I prefer the spray option personally!!- one of those travel sizes and take lid off while youβre out – youβre not strong enough to fight off a dog so if someone allows their dangerous dog loose then thatβs all they deserve – I was told that after a woman contacted my breeder for a dog / her dog was torn apart by two staffs- and she was helpless – hey/ even better carry one in each pocket side and use both!! A lot of irresponsible dog owners out there. My chi didnβt get socialised properly when small – heβs three now- and itβs because I was so afraid of other dogs – heβs tiny – we have to protect them anyway we can
I bet it would work on people too if you ever got mugged.
This is my chi Poco and he is awesome.
I don’t see the photo Kathy.

She sounds like a Chi Christy!
Thanks for adding me. I have a Chihuahua I found on the side of the road. We had her for two days and she developed Parvo. For seven days and nights my hubby, my daughter and I gave her Pedia lite every 30 minutes and brought my sweet little Sophie back from the jaws of death. Now she is COMPLETLY spoiled. We love our little chi-chi!
Wow, she’s lucky you found her at the right time Debbie!
We are excited to be joining your website!! My Chi’s bring me so much joy!!
And we are excited to have you here Evelyn! Love your little Chi!

My daughter in law took her. The male I had for 14 years before having to put him down, he was the love of my life. Just adopted a puppy from a shelter, hes beautiful. His name is Harley, spitin image of my Poncho.
Thanks for joining Barbara!
Hi! So glad I found this forum!
I have a 7 year old long hair Chi named Poohchi.
My companion and my baby, she is loving and special.
Adopted from the pound three years ago.
Sheβs just a doll.
So great you and Poochi found each other Grace.
We also were not Chihuahua people until we were a foster fail for a sweet tan chihuahua we named Pico. He was in a shelter in Rockport Texas last October. He is so amazing we got him a little brother – De Gallo. The amount of love a chihuahua gives their owner and the bond they develop is so beautiful. It breaks my heart when I see a chihuahua that is in a shelter situation. I would bring them all home if I could.
I’d bring them all home too if I could. Your fur kids are adorable Rhonda!
Hi everyone!! Thank you so much for letting my Chi and I join!!! So excited that there is something out there like this for people like me ? you donβt know how happy I am. This is my baby, my angel, my saving grace, Bambi. She came from a hoarder from South Carolina back in oct 2010. We got 31 out of 180 Chihuahua mixes from one house. She was about 10-12 weeks when she came up here and didnβt even weigh a pound and a half. nothing but bones and was biting everybody except me for some reason. So I took her home to foster and well, I am officially hers the following January lol. My boss new what she was doing. She does rescues. I helped when I groomed there. Was the best thing ever. Oh and chis can most definitely be service dogs. She is mine. She has saved my life a couple times because of it. I always said I would never have a Chihuahua and I would never dress it or anything like that LOL. But then 10 months later this little girl came into my life with hardly any hair. Then customers of mine started Giving me clothes for her. Then just a couple weeks after I brought her home my last dog which was a German Shepherd past from kidney failure. I think she was waiting for someone to come be with me. She was a great dog. she was over 16. Her name is Sandy. And she loved little Bambi. I donβt dress Bambi all the time. Just for special occasions and events and when she gets cold LOL. She like to get into her sweaters. Forgive me this is so long.
Bambi is so adorable in her little dress! I’m glad she “converted” you to the chi way of life. LOL
Sandy sounds like she was a great dog too. We recently lost our german shepherd mix at 12 years old. He had so much personality and I really miss him. He loved my Lucas too. They were best buds.
Thanks for joining us April!
Cathy, I am so very sorry for your loss ?. I really pray and hope he didnβt suffer and I pray he rests peacefully and happily in heaven with the Lord. Heβs waiting for you at the rainbow bridge. I just lost my bearded dragon, my grandfather and my goat all in less then a month starting June 8th. I know they are all waiting. And I miss them very much. I know how you feel. Itβs not easy. But your little one Lucas is here to help you through it?. Thank you again.
Thank you. And now I have my little Lucy too and that helps a lot.
You’ve had a tough summer! I’m so sorry for your losses.
Thank you. Is Lucy a chi too? Pics? ?
Yep she is. Lucas is a chi/yorkie/mini-pin mix. Here’s a photo of them on my bed this morning. Lucy is on the left, Lucas on the right.
Oh my gosh they are so cute. Donβt know why but this wonβt let me put my name. I see was saying I was anonymous. Buts itβs April. When I go to put my name in it will only put in the il. Oh well. Anyway they are beautiful and handsome!!!!
Thank you!
I think there is a bug in the comment software I’m using because someone else was having the same issue this morning.
Ok. Thank you. It was ok earlier when I posted about Bambi. Oh well. Technically.
Thank You for letting me join your club
Thank you for joining us Faye!
Thanks for adding me! My Chi is 19 – yes nineteen, she turned 19 in April and is going strong. She has one tooth so she is fed senior can food daily and a half cup of her favorite dry kibble. Thank God she is doing so well. She does not want to be bothered so she is kept in a soft warm doggy bed with her own house. We carry her out and in to do her business, she is incontient but at her age its not a problem. I just keep her and her doggy area clean and dry. I have stopped her shots three years ago and only use natural flea drops on her. I am amazed and happy she is still with us.
She looks great for her age! You must be doing something right for her to reach 19 Lin.
URGENT & IMPORTANT My four month old Jerry is supper aggressive. He always run after people, even familiar people to bite them or scare them to a point where either parties will get hurt. What can I do? He is ANTISOCIAL I feel.
Yeah he is aggressive and it’s something you need to nip in the bud before he gets older. This is all part of small dog syndrome. He thinks he is the king of the house.
I’d look for a good dog training program (at the very least, enroll him in PetSmart or PetCo’s puppy training class) just so he learns he is not the boss.
I keep a vitamin bottle with the seal on it close by and whenever my pups what do something that was unwanted and I wanted to put a stop to it and it in the bed I would shake the vitamin bottle and they don’t like that noise and it would get their attention and I would say no at the same time or I would say at the same time and it make some stop unwanted Behavior place that’s why I always has work with me so shake and now or shaken or whatever words you want to choose and then eventually they stop that behavior because they don’t like that noise and it all has to be simultaneous so you have to be prepared for the behavior and when you know it’s going to happen have the vitamin bottle in your hand and be ready to say I don’t worried that you choose it’s a correction that doesn’t hurt them at just is annoyed that they don’t like and they’re going to want to avoid hearing it so I have found that at work sound when they’re puppies Bay catch on very quickly that if it’s something that they’re not supposed to do they’re going to get the noise and they rather not hear it… Chihuahuas are very smart so we have to try to find a way to outsmart them which is very hard because so intelligent and very fast and they’re also they’re very low to the ground, we have to use our minds to correct them as they’re doing what they’re not supposed to be doing… And it’s extra difficult because they’re so cute even when they’re being naughty but it’s not something that you want them doing when they get older or when you have company and you don’t want want to be unsocial… Best wishes and good luck with your little one
My Pup may have cancer. And I can’t afford the surgery. I don’t know what I should do there are no vets that take payments. they all want to cash up front. Is there someone to turn to does anyone know?
I’m so sorry Debbie! That has to be heart breaking.

How old is your chi?
Hi nice to be a member of a Chi club! We once had a Chihuahua meet-up group where all parents with Chi’s went to dog safe parks together and had a special Chi Xmas I am currently raising my 5th chi – always seemed to have males but have my first loving female Angel. They are my everything! Couldn’t be without them! Hi all Chi parents?
Thanks for joining us! I’d love to be a member of a chi meet up group like that!
HI my little Chi is 7 years old. He had a canine tooth that was a baby tooth and never came out. Today his snout was swollen and found out the tooth is now infected (abscess) they say I should have it removed surgically. It will cost around 300 dollars which I would have to use a credit card and he would be put under and it would be all day and i could pick him up after work. I am scared of how risky it may be. My dog has always been healthy and I’m looking for advise about having the surgery done. I am giving him oral antibiotics for now and softening his dry food which he ate the whole bowl once I moistened it. Can anyone tell me if their Chi has had surgery and if it was fine? I am really worried about this and trying to decide what to do.
There is a risk to the surgery Jean but there is a greater risk if you let it go and do nothing. These kind of infections can be life threatening. The antibiotics will help but not long term if the tooth isn’t removed.
Let us know what you decide and how he is doing. Good luck. I’m praying for your little guy!
Yes it’s is best his tooth is taken out
And it’s important to buy toothpaste from your veretinary..we’re do you live..

Hi, this is my Kiki, 3 months old, I cannot tell if she’s an apple or deer, I would say a mix. What do you think?
The photo didn’t come through Jelena.
We got our little girl, Zoey, at age 6 months. She is now 9 months. She is absolutely mean to anyone around her except for my husband and myself. I want her to be social because we like to travel. What can we do to make her quit growling and snapping at anyone that comes hear her.
The good news is she’s young so you may be able to turn this around.
I’d get her in a puppy training class (PetSmart and PetCo has them) as soon as possible, Just being around other people and dogs there will giver her some more socialization opportunities and the training will help.
Also, we have a few articles that may help: https://ilovemychi.com/training-aggressive-chihuahua/

Hello,

can someone please help

Thank you!
Linda?
Hi Linda,
I’m not sure what part of WA you are in but check this page out: https://www.adoptapet.com/s/adopt-a-chihuahua/washington/seattle
Willow
Were you trying to show us a photo of Willow? It didn’t come through.
My penny has a cloudy greenish blue tinge to his eye’s, also he rubs his eye’s alot. Is this serious?
Hi Rob,
It could be Nuclear sclerosis which isn’t a big deal and doesn’t hurt the dog’s vision or it could be cataracts or glaucoma. Your vet could tell you for sure.
Since he’s rubbing his eyes, he could have dry eye which can be treated by eye drops. Again your vet will need to diagnose this.
Oh my gosh!!! No wonder my poor Missy was SCRATCHING herself so badly. I just found 3 fleas sucking her blood there were arround her vaginal area. Kill the 3 bb,and I used cotton buds dump in coconut oil. I not going to sleep tonite. I been watching her like I did with my babies (twins 45) boys and a girl 43.
Oh my poor little angel, just been to the vet for VACCINATION last week,he saids very healthy, about her rush he didn’t give me nothing, saids Chihuahuas having skin problems all the time. I do vacuum every second days my unit, and don’t have carpet. She plays with my friends dog shes a sausage one. So,Missy may catch it of her. Who knows. I’m so worries she was shaking because, she knew I was upset but,no with her. Shes 3 years old, chihuahua x Papillon. So,breeds calls Chion.
Yeah fleas are no fun but it’s something most of us have had to deal with at one time or another.
If you found 3, there may be more around in your house. One way to tell is plug in a night light in an electric outlet that is low to the ground. Place a shallow pan of soapy water underneath the night life. Be sure the night light is the only light on overnight and check the water in the morning to see if there are any fleas in there.
I am going to be taking in a 1-year-old chihuahua. She is not trained at all yet. Do you think it will be very difficult to train her? Do you have any tips?
It can be challenging but not impossible. The main thing is to stay consistent. We have this article on potty training: https://ilovemychi.com/housetraining-your-chihuahua/
And a good guest post on it here: https://ilovemychi.com/how-i-potty-trained-my-impossible-chihuahua/
Appreciate knowing,
Sherry
Yes, neutering could cause the increased weight gain.
You might want to switch to a weight loss food if he will eat it. I don’t recommend Royal Canin anymore unless someone has a dog that refuses to eat or one that needs to gain a little weight.
Check out this article for the best recommended foods: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/weight-loss-dog-foods/
Also I’d switch to 1/3 cup once a day instead of twice.
Hello Elaina, As mentioned consistency is KEY !! After EACH wake=up, show/demonstrate/use finger to the outside OR paper train.
My method for my wee chihuahua years ago and it WORKS !!! Use the same spot so he EQUATES that area to PEE PEE TIME. If he is a male…..The dollar store has TINY FIRE HYDRANTS and with that newspapers under the hydrant, with each peeee, clean the hydrant and leave a tiny scent for the next time. AGAIN, CONSISTENCY &&&&& PRAISE. Hope this helps, Sherry
I have just joined your club. My little Chi’s name is Gucci. She will be ll yrs old 5/3. She is 21/2 pounds of energy. She lost her sister last September and had a hard time always looking for her and trying to find her when it was time to eat. She is doing well now. Very attached to me. Love her so much. She has big ears and big eyes, she is so adorable. Hope she is with me for many years to come.
Gucci sounds adorable!
Hi, I’m Monica from Mexico, I am a pet lover. This is my last pet rescue… Maya. She’s so cute and smart. I love her.
I love her coloring Monica! I’m so glad you rescued her.
Thanks for letting me join
Thank you Robin for joining us!
My weird Chihuahua, Hogan, LOVES to pull off my socks as soon as I come from work run around living room, chew on them, rub himself on them. He now started to include his Grammie in ritual.
LOL, that is so cute. And he’s a handsome boy too Hogan.
My Lola likes to “kill” her food sometimes. She will bark at it, throw it, and growl at it. Sometimes she will act like a bull getting ready to charge (with her legs) at her food, then attack it. She is so funny to watch.
LOL, I bet that is funny to watch!
I recently started giving my Lea doggie bone broth. She loves the flavor and it has really perked her up! I got beef and chicken from Amazon. Be sure it’s for dogs because human bone broth has some onion in it sometimes, which isn’t good for a dog’s gastrointestinal system.
I’ve heard good things about bone broth for people. I’m glad they have for dogs too. We will have to give it a try.
My darling little Lily.. my constant companion,,
What a pretty chi!
My cute little furry is a cute baby
I bet they are cute!
I Just got my first deer head Chihuahua. A little girl. What a sweet little thing. I knew nothing about the breed. I have been reading up on her since I got her. I was told she was 10 weeks when I got her. I did think she was going to be smaller, so maybe she is older?
They were mean to her. She cowards a lot and when I put a leash on her and tried to move her she went number two. How do I get her out of this stage sheβs in. Sheβs not like it all the time just when she thinks sheβs done something wrong like Iβm potty training her. I think they were mean to her because sheβs a little hard to potty train but she seems to be doing OK.
I give her a lot of kisses and hold her and hug her. I bought her for my Shih Tzu to be friends with. My Shih Tzu usually doesnβt like other dogs and she just loves this puppy and the puppy loves her. So I think that might be good for her to bring her out of her cowardness. When they are together she really perks up and plays with my little Shih Tzu which is a female to.
Iβll take all the Advice I can get. I am wondering if she is 10 weeks old. I really canβt tell.
Kathy
Congratulations on your new little girl Kathy.
She may be 10 weeks. Your vet could tell you more accurately. They can tell by the teeth.
Chihuahuas are typically hard to potty train. If you haven’t already seen it, we have an article on housetraining here: https://ilovemychi.com/housetraining-your-chihuahua/ It helps that you have another dog that can influence her on what to do.
As for her being scared and skittish sometimes, she may always be like this to some extent. She may or may not have been treated mean in the past. Sometimes it’s just the dog’s personality. You are doing the right thing in showing her lots of love and affection.
So happy to find this site .Looking forward to lots more reading. My 9# chihuahua is Nemo – white with tan markings like Nemo the clown fish in movie of same name. He was 2 years old when adopted from rescue. Such a good boy, uses puddle pads during the day and out for walk once before bed. He loves 2 of us. I am Mama – he loves his Papa too, especially reclining in the evening watching t.v.
He sounds like a wonderful little guy and yall sound like great pet parents Jan.
This is Half Pint shes my baby shes sooo spoiled
She’s so pretty Love her coloring.
Funny , my chi is named 1/2 Pint also , sheβs the only one Iβve ever heard of with this name until yours ! Thatβs cool great name except sometimes I think I should of named her Pint since she did get a little bigger than expected, ? . My 1/2 Pint a lot like yours except mine has lighter brown coloring (Fawn) Sheβ just turned 5 yrs (3-18-2015) Sheβs my service dog & quite a character!
She’s a cutie Rebecca!
This is Ivy, she is 5 years old. We found her at the animal shelter when she was about a year old. She has such a great personality, we are so happy we found her!
She’s got a great face! Thanks for sharing her with us Karen!
Is it true that if you have ashema that your little chihuahua will get it too ? I would never want that to happen to my baby.
Do you mean asthma? No, they can’t get it from you.
There was an old myth that they could cure you from it but it’s not true either.
My 8 month old female, weighs 5 pounds and seems pretty healthy. Ocassionally she coughs a dry cough and nothing comes up but it scares me every time she does it. I also have 2 female part lab and part unknown, they weigh about 40 pounds. They all wrestle together, sometimes Bambi and Gracie. Bambi is my Chi. They get kinda rough and rowdy and I caution them. My wife is afraid Bambi will get hurt. The Chi is extremely smart and I think the other two know it. I think if something happened to our Chi my wife couldn’t stand the loss.
It’s entirely possible for the bigger dogs to accidentally hurt the chi while playing so it’s good yall are keeping an eye on them when they play.
Chis are smart but they definitely think they are bigger than they are.
I thank God for Chi,after accident in which a teenager use me brake pad. I need a alarm or someone the answer our door! Well a friend did not want a medium side Chi we name him Pancho ,he had been hit in the right eye but my wife fail in love with him and so did I. Well 15 years he lay down and when to sleep in my arms 8/12/2019 @ 11:43 am. Pancho never sick a day he just protect my family like great dane!nothing got by him.Pancho help me to recover in learn to walk again. Then Pancho made several boys and girls puppies. Now I know my Pancho is in doggieHeaven with other members of our family. Now my parents got a real Hero in there mist!
I’m so sorry that you lost your little Pancho!
They do make great little watch dogs and they definitely do help us heal.
It’s so nice to hear how everyone else loves their Chi’s. I spoil mine rotten. She’s got a better wardrobe than i do. And she always has to be with MOMMY.
Thanks for joining us Linda! Sounds like your little girl is well loved.
Chihuahua this is was my baby girl she was 5years when she got limp nose cancer had to put her down didn’t want her to suffer that has been a while ago still miss her her name was bella
Iβm so sorry you lost your precious Bella Charlotte. She was adorable.
I have a deer head. Poncho Juan Carlos. He is a 13 year old rescue and the love of my life.
He looks like a cutie Melinda and I love his name.
My baby is just 5 months old I’m thinking she may be the deer head but she also has Dashound in her so she’s a Chiwiennie she has all the spunk of a chi
How cute! Yes, she is a deer head chiweenie.
Thanks for letting me join up! I have had 7 chihuahuas in my lifetime and currently I have 3 rescues. A deer head: Leo; apple head: Lily ; Chiweenie: Gizmo ( hes the naughtiest). This picture is of my old chi Kevlar (kevi) he passed away July 5, 2018 at 15 years old.
Welcome Katherine and thanks for joining us! I laughed about your chiweenie being naughty.
Just adopted Finn and Griswold ( “Little Man” Finn and “Woofy” Griswold. First go around with Chihuahuas – both adult rescues. From what I’m reading I’m gonna love them.
They look like little sweethearts! I’m so glad you gave them a home Lucie!
I have two Chi’s, well one is a Mini-Pin/Chi named Isis. She is 6 years old and a re-home pet, and is black/tan. Our other pup is mostly a Chi. We think she may have a little mini-pin in her. Her name is Amun-et, and she will be two years old next summer. She is another re-home pet. You can see we just love those Egyptian names.
Yes, I have heard of the name Isis but not Amun-et.
This is Miss Mallorie, a.k.a. the Divine Miss M. She rescued me 5 months after my husband had passed away – – Yes, she literally saved me. She is such a good little girl too. She’s also quite the diva in every sense of the meaning of the word and is a master at “resting prima donna face”, LOL. She’s very dramatic and you can almost hear her saying “I am your queen”. She’ll turn 5 in January – she was 2 1/2 when she rescued me. I’m told she’s a Chi mix… a “ShepChi” (shephard chi mix). She’s bigger than the average doe head chi. She’s just the biggest goofball and the best little girl in the whole world!!!
Here’s the Divine Miss M’s perfecting her “resting prima donna face”. Actually, the caption should read = “Sticks? I don’t see no sticks. – y’all lied to me” [we were at an outside Styx tribute band concert]
LOL, yes I can imagine her saying that! I love Styx too.
And one more pic of the Divine Miss M with her “resting prima donna face” as she being chauffeured. I can’t pick up my car keys without her expecting to ride along – – anywhere.
She does look like a little queen on her throne there.
HMy 3 month old chihuahua puppy. Is she an apple or a deer?
I can’t quite tell for sure. She’s still very young and a side view makes it easier to see. If I had to say, I’d say a deer head.
a deer
That’s a wonderful story Gina! So glad she rescued you!
Thanks for letting me join. I have one most adorable chi my daughter gave me. Her name is Bella Pearl. She is my eye balls and love her with all my heart. Bella is now 1 year and a half. Everywhere I am you will find her. I am 80 years old and I wish I had one years ago. She is so much company. Becky
Thanks for joining us Becky and so glad you have your sweet little Bella Pearl!
I have a Deer head Chi and she is wonderful. She is very playful and very protective of me. I socialized her when she was just still a puppy so she gets along with everyone and the other dogs in the household. The only thing is that I wished that I had gotten her used to wearing shirts because now she thinks that its a punishment if I put one on her and she does not like it at all. Will she get used to it if I keep putting them on her?
Help her to see putting on a shirt is a good thing. Praise her as you are putting it on and maybe give her a treat or take her for a walk or do something else she loves.
Good day
I am Amanda for Cape Town in South Africa. I do have 9 Chis of my own and do have the past 18 years a housekeeper that is having a flat in my house that is looking after my babies while I am running my three scools during the day. Last week a had a professional photographer that took photos of each of them and them from the group. My husband always said he is not in the line of loving it is only the babies. They are my entire love. Please keep on sharing our little ones with one another.
Wow, 9 chis Amanda! That’s alot of fur kids!
Hi Cathy,
I have three chis, Bella and Stormy are my two rescues girls and then there’s Lacie. Lacie is my sweet, adorable wild child who just turned thirteen weeks old yesterday. No doubt you can already tell she’s completely captured my heart, and her tiny little paw-prints are firmly and forever imprinted across every single inch of it. That’s not to say that I love Bella and Stormy any less, but they’re more Gigi’s (my mom) babies now. Unfortunately in 2013 I had a slip and fall accident that left me disabled, and sadly I wasn’t able to do all the things we use to do together. Naturally over time their bond with Gigi grew stronger and eventually they became her little shadows. I was truly saddened to lose so much of their companionship, but was also very grateful that they had my mom and since my mom and I live together they’re still apart of my everyday life, which for me is such a beautiful blessing. My birthday was October tenth and that’s when my newest and one of my most precious blessings came into my life and as you must have already guessed, this blessing is named Lacie.
My sweet Lacie is so absolutely perfect and is pretty much by my side 24/7. We have had one difficulty however which I am hoping you may have a few tips/advice to help us get pass. The man that sold Lacie to my husband led him to believe she was ready to leave her mama. This was so far from the truth and left me so dang mad that anyone would be so heartless to my precious baby. It took repeated calls and texts but the guy finally gave me Lacie’s birth date, which is when I found out she was only five weeks old when she was taken away from her mama. No puppy at five weeks old is any where near prepared and ready to leave their mama. Especially as small a breed as the chihuahua. I myself bred and raised chis for many years and absolutely NEVER sold the puppies before twelve weeks old. With Lacie being only five weeks old when I got her she was weeks away from being old enough to be weened which is the sole reason for the bump in the road we have and are still dealing with. Lacie has no problems what so ever with eating her food, drinking on the other hand is a completely different issue. That’s not to say that she’s dehydrated as I put water in her food and use a syringe several times a day to make sure she’s getting her fluids. Even still it will be such a relief once she’s drinking on her own. We’ve tried a multitude of ways to try and coax her into drinking on her own including everything I’ve read online but my sweet baby girl is not budging. So if by any chance you have an idea or two I’d be truly grateful for the share. The one thing I have been able to get her to do is to lick the condensation off the outside of my glass. I’m also hopeful that once she gets to be down with my other two girls and sees them drinking that she’ll simply pick it up that way. However that’s another three and a half weeks from now which is when she gets her last set of shots and I’m really really hoping and praying we can get her drinking sooner rather than later.
Well Cathy thank you so much for accepting my request to join I love my chi. It is definitely the perfect group and place for me as I do so beyond adore my three girls and all the rest of the beloved chihuahuas out there. I hope my introduction was okay. Oh and btw, my sweet Lacie has been sitting right here in my lap the whole time I’ve been typing lol.
She’s a doll baby!
A puppy not drinking is a new one on me. I can ask on our Facebook page and see if anyone has ideas if you want.
My only idea, and you may have already tried this, is to try some warm beef broth and see if she will drink that. If she does, then give it to her every day but gradually decrease the broth and increase the water until eventually it’s all water.
My little chihuahua is 4.5 pounds and has seizures, I give her honey and it helps her. Any other ideas besides honey that I can use?
Check out our post on seizures and be sure to read the comments too. Others have shared what has worked for their dogs there. Here’s the link: https://ilovemychi.com/a-chihuahua-owners-guide-to-seizure-disorders/
Thanks for letting me join the group I have 2 chihuahuas elvis and priscilla

Thank you so much for letting me join to show off my babies and see other pretty babies
Thank you for joining us Sheila!
Hello! I found you in Kristie Hill’s Jumpstart directory. I blog about cats π I have a feeling we came across each other at some point – but now I follow you on social and subscribed so I’ll be back!
I just got a chihuahua a month ago when he was 10 weeks old. One thing that was surprising was his legs were just so long! Almost too long for his little body! I had never heard of deer chihuahua so was happy to find you online!
Thanks for joining us Sunny!
Your puppy is adorable!
Thank you Cathy, For letting me join your Chi fan club. To the lady who ask about the pacing, my Taco is 12 yr 8 mos. young we met at an animal rescue, he started pacing about 5 or 6 month ago, my vet said try a little dose of Melatonin ( for Taco 1/4 of a 1 mg. ) He weighs 12.4 lbs. so you need to check with your vet first. But, it has helped Taco a lot. He an I are best bud’s, I’m 80 an he is my first out of 5 that is a pure bred (deer-head) We met when he was 10 & 1/2 , an I have spoiled him rotten (just like all the others before him). Yes, I have grown children 62 & 59, grandchildren & great grandchildren. But, I would not trade my Chihuahua’s for anything. Only wish I could have more, but live in an apartment that will only let you have one pet at a time. (there should be a law against this) I am a very responsible person an I know Taco would love to have a friend.
I thought you had joined a long time ago Bonnie. That’s good to know about the Melantonin for pacing.
I owned such a beautiful Charming Blue Fawn & White male Chihuahua. He name is Toby. I am so heartbroken for I had to put him down this past Friday. He was only 14 years and 5 months old. I never thought that he would be gone at this age for I thought he wouldβve lived longer. He was such a true companion to me along with his brother Riley who is still with me. Now Iβve been trying to find another Chihuahua who has the same features as Toby. I never realized how difficult this would be. No one Chihuahua can look the same. Iβm still searching and hoping that I can find one who looked like Toby. I miss him so dearly.
I’m so sorry you lost your little guy Israel. he was a cutie pie.
I have 2 adorable chihuahuas 1 is 14 yrs. old and thatβs Goofy the other one is 10 yrs old, Mickey, they both my life. I canβt see my self with neither one. They both sleep in bed with me, and when I sing they both sing with me. They are very special to me, I donβt want anyone to yield at them or spank them. When I travel to PR Goofy stays by the front door waiting for me to come back, but he cryβs all the time until I show up, if I go to PR it has to be only for a week because he wonβt eat until Iβm there with him. His very close to me. And if my husband put him in the bed he has to have my blanket so he can smell me, isnβt he adorable. And I have to call him every day so he knows Iβm ok. Now, tell me if they are adorable or not? Then when he seeβs that Iβm back he start singing, then heβs happy again. They both fill my life with happiness, my mom didnβt believe me when I told her that they sing with me until she heard them one time. I think God bless me with the two of them. β€οΈ
They sound adorable Myrna. I bet they are really cute when they sing.
This is Chiquita(Chiqui). She is a rescue. Running the neighborhood 1 year old and not spayed. Never had puppies. She is now spayed and up to dated shots in a loving home with me. I WOULD LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR HER!
I’m so glad you rescued her Wendy and gave her a loving home!
I don’t just love Chihuahuas, I adore them…..they are the joy of my life!!
I have taken-in or found great homes for several Chi’s, I currently have six….all of which have a “story” but they all have a FOREVER HOME here.goal
They are an accepting, loving ‘Pack’ and they seem to just KNOW when a new Chi in-need arrives and they are so sweet in helping make them comfortable.
I would very much like to take in more, especially the abandoned, abused or elderly and provide them with a loving, safe, fun home for the rest of their lives…..a Retirement Home for Chihuahuas is my dream and my goal.
I recently moved to a great home in the country with 5 acres to romp, roam and discover….supervised, of course?
If anyone knows of or has a Chi in need of a new, loving home please feel free to hit me up!
I envy you Jymmer. That sounds like a wonderful life.
Ok i have a Chihuahua pug mix, unfortunately he doesn’t get along with others, so i had to keep him in our shed that has a build in AC, when i got home today someone unplugged it, cause they said since they are helping pay the electricity they are not going to pay for air for my pup, i told them if he gets heat stroke im going to press charges on them for cruelty to animals, need help to resolve this issue these others who lives under my roof needs to know bout cruelty to animals, but they act like they are above any laws due to they make more money then i do, and yes they brought over pets themselves and then get tired of taking care if them and just let them loose in the wild or finds someone else to care for the pets just ti turn around and bring in more they don’t care for them aswell
That’s a tough one James. Can you leave your dog in your room with the door closed? Or can you add an extra $20 towards the electric bill each month to pay for the extra AC?
Well we’ve tried that before and that’s how hes in the situation his in where he’s outside in an ac shed with plenty if food and water, his squeaky toys bed, and i go out and spend time with him, he doesn’t like my girlfriend’s daughter due to her always pissing him off, so one day she was at the bedroom door agitating my pup and her oldest just barge in and my pup nipped at him didn’t break skin or drew any blood, and all of a sudden everyone wants to destroy him put to sleep, he loves me, my girlfriend and gfs son, but hates ger daughter and current boyfriend probably cause hes black he was a rescue pup people we got him from they locked him in a big room in his cage barely any food or water, apparently he git mistreated when he was a smaller puppy by their grandkids and he was always skidish while eating or drinking they also told us they put him outside to potty tied to a tree no shelter and sometimes forget hes out there during a stormy night til the morning, he is 1 yr younger then the other 3 we now have, but he lost all or most of his teeth and something happened to his back legs to one fay when i came back from store across from my dad’s house, he hurt his back legs area, hes a bit better, but wobbly when he stands but he likes to play and run with his daddy aka me lol hes very loving if youll be patient enough to let him know you, as for keeping him in our bedroom right now, unfortunately can’t, due to everyone just walks in when they want to, no knocking when they need a bathroom, or just to be a pain to their disabled mom,
I just joined your club. I got my first Chi when I began to volunteer at the local SPCA. She had been found on the median of a local highway. She was super scared, but quickly came out of her shell. I then began going to flea markets every weekend and wound up buying a chihuahua every weekend because I felt sorry for them. They were so young and taken away from the mother so they could be sold as βteacupβ chis. I wound up with 27 chis of every color, size and personality. They were all spayed or neutered and on heartworm medicine. I lived on a 70 acre farm, so I had plenty of room. They had a fenced in area with a wooden childβs house with heat and air conditioning. They were all free fed. But then I was moving and could not have all those dogs. I gave most of them to the chihuahua rescue. I now am in my new house and I now have three. One is a Chi/bostonterrier rescue, one is a Merle deer head, and my newest is a blue male deer head. I never had one fight between any of them nor one bite anyone. I could never pick out one favorite because I loved all of them. I never liked small dogs until my first one and then I did a complete reverse-they are the best!
Wow Eleanor, you have had quite a history with this breed!
My name is Lilbit, I am 4 years old, and very spoiled.
Lilbit you are a beautiful fur baby.
I love my two dogs
I love mine too LR.
I have two brothers deer head chis that came from a hoarder who had 23 chis and she and her husband were 80 years old. They called our outreach program for help and my shelter took7 of them I think. The girls went quickly. The two boys I have were there for 5 months, were so unsocialized, they never saw a leash, werenβt given affection, and since having them I would add that they probably were never outside. I think this for many reasons but a few are, they acted like they never smelled rain before, just couldnβt get enough of smelling the wet patio bricks. They spook if a dried leaf flies by their face, and they do not like night at all. They startled so much, they startled me, so at night I turn on the patio light and they go on some fake turf I bought.
I forgot to mention they are 3 years old. They are very smart, are learning things fast, are able to accept and give affection
Thank God they now have a safe home with you Margie!
Thank you for letting me join. One year ago I had to put my 18 year old chihuahua down. I loved him so much, he was my baby. He will be gone two years in October. I never thought that I would want another Chi, but starting to look and maybe find another luv bugβ€οΈ
I’m so sorry you lost your fur baby Donna! But glad you joined us and I do hope you get another one to love soon.
Hi there – yes weβve said that about every pet weβve had yet sk be how life brought us to get another – and weβve loved them as much as the little individual characters they are. Itβs so painful tho and my heart goes out to you. You may find healing when you get another – my brother took the death of our solver man very bad – didnβt want another ever – eventually my dad decided to get another dog- -didnβt tell my brother – left him in the kitchen then asked my brother to get him something in there and when he walked in and saw the little fellow – he squealed in delight carrying him back into our room cuddling him as happy as ever- each dog / pet has its own character and you love them for each little being that they are – hereβs mine – heβs 3 1/2
I love that story Jen! Your little guy is freaking adorable too!
Xx thank you xx
A bundle of mischief tho teehee x
I bet he is!
I have a three year old white chihuahua, his eyes are taking on a greenish cloudy color in certain lighting. What do I do to find out and what could it be.
It could be cataracts or glaucoma forming on his eyes. Or some other eye issue. He really needs to see a vet for a proper diagnosis.
I definitely csnt tell with our Marley lol I was ALSO told he is technically a shi-chi. A shitZu and a Chihuahua mix. I’m having a hard time seeing that. Please help me
Show us a photo Dana and I’ll try my best.
my chihuahua ate salt pls tell me how to do this
How much salt did your chi eat?
i dont know she stop down the glass of salt
Not sure what stop down the glass of salt means but keep an eye on her. It it was just a little, she might be thirstier than normal but will be ok.
Too much salt causes sodium ion poisoning. Symptoms of too much salt include vomiting, diarrhea, depression, tremors, high temperature, and seizures and worse case scenario is death. Get her to the vet as soon as possible if you notice any of these symptoms.
My tan colored chi is name Buckwheat but I call him Buckaroo most of the time.
Love that name Martha!
I lost my little rescue Chi a little over a year ago and still miss her. I need another little girl.
Sincerely, Bernie Qualheim
I’m so sorry Bernie. If you need help finding a new rescue, we have this post that may give you some ideas: https://ilovemychi.com/how-to-find-a-chihuahua-rescue/
okay look my dog is a toy Chihuahua and she is having a really bad seizure I am scared crying and trying to figure out what to do can anybody please help me
Timothy, how is she now? Your comment came in the middle of the night so I didn’t see it. We have an article on seizures here: https://ilovemychi.com/a-chihuahua-owners-guide-to-seizure-disorders/
But she really needs to see a vet.
Hi Cathy,I have written to you before about Jake and Yogi.I have a question for you.How do we give good emotional support to our Yogi and Jake When we can’t be with them as we are living a motel room and it is too expensive for them to stay with us as.They are staying with a friend and they are being well cared for. We do see them when we can get a chance. They miss us really bad.We do too. We had to give up our 5th wheel travel trailer. The trailer had to be moved and the only we could get moved was to sell it.It had a Lot of problems. This has left us homeless except for the motel room.So if you could give us some ideas how comfort these 2 little guys I’d like that.I almost forgot our cats are with our friend too.Thank you Lynda Roberts
Lynda, I’ll add what few tips I can think of when responding to your email.
My husband and I always had pit bull dogs. But after he died and I had no dogs then, my son got me a Chihuahua dog. I just love him! We take walks all the time and he is a excellent watch dog for me! He’s my little boy!
I’m glad you came to the wonderful world of chis Patricia!
What’s interesting is that Pitbulls are the most euthanized breed in the U.S. and chihuahuas are the second most euthanized.
I love my chi more than anything. She is the only family I have left.
I’m sorry you don’t have any other family Jacqueline but I’m glad you have your fur baby.
Male chihuahua called Henrique.
That’s a great name Mary.

Hello! Just joined the club. My first dog ever was my chihuahua Chloe, who passed away from heart failure about a month ago. She was so smart, funny, pretty and loyal. My best friend who taught me love, forgiveness, loyalty and compassion. I’m anticipating getting some more chihuahuas within the next 6 months once my mind has healed from the pain of losing my precious girl. Love chihuahuas so much!
I’m so sorry you lost Chloe! Let us know when you get a new chi!
These are three
My son an I adopted a year old female chihuahua that was dumped out of a car. We are looking for a young male chihuahua or small mixed chihuahua to be her buddy. We live north of Kansas City.
Sorry Barbara, I don’t know of any but we do have a few article that may help:
https://ilovemychi.com/how-to-find-a-chihuahua-rescue/
https://ilovemychi.com/how-to-find-a-reputable-chihuahua-dog-breeder/
I have a Chihuahua that is steady crying it’ll be a reason for thata
If your dog is crying, there is a reason and he/she may be in pain. I’d get them to a vet as soon as possible.
Thanks you and as the owner of chuachuala little Madam Rossie I am looking forward to be part of the chuachuala club.
Thanks for joining us Robert!
I am a big Chihuahua lover. I have two minis that I dearly love. One was rescued from a puppy mill and the other was handed around to different homes until we rescued her and gave her a permanent home at the age of four months. There was a third Chi who was bonded to my husband but crossed Rainbow Bridge seven months to the day after my husband passed away. Our Chi’s are very protective, loving, and just all out fun. My babies are up in age just like me. And very healthy. I am glad to have found this website and was able to join. I look forward to enjoying more of the antics of those other Chihuahua babies who are on this website as well as general info about the breed. Thank you.
I’m so glad you joined us Fay!
Tyvm glad I found this page
I’m glad you found us too Tracy!
I have a very healthy almost 13 yr old rescue chi we got almost 4 years ago. She is a long legged 6 lb adorable package that looks like a little fawn. Would love to hear info on older babies.
Well you are in luck Diana. We have a whole page dedicated to senior chis that has all the articles that are senior chi related:

Our little baby is named Gingersnap . She was shy the first day, then she took over so the name.
LOL, that sounds like a chi. My Lucy was shy and quiet for several days. Now she’s the boss over her brothers.
I love the name Gingersnap.
My little girl is so honery that when we cut her toenails we have too put a towel over her eyes so she doesn’t see what we’re doing
I used to have to do that to Kilo too.
I want a toy chi,but my family is trying to talk me out of it
Why are they trying to talk you out of it Mazie?

HEEEEELP! I LOVE HER. My R16 yr old Rattie died a year ago.πͺπͺπͺπͺπͺπͺ
That’s unusual for a chi. They are known to be lap dogs. Will she ever get in your lap on her own?
Also is she food motivated? If so, you can try training her with treats. This whole process may take several weeks and you will need to work with her everyday.
Get some tiny treats and sit on the floor and put a treat near you on the floor. When she gets that, keep putting treats closer to you for her to get until the treat is in your lap. If she jumps in your lap to get the treat, praise her and do it again until she is comfortable with sitting in your lap.
Next when she gets in your lap to get the treat put your hand on her back and lightly pet her. Keep working at this until you can eventually hold her.
My sweet little boy Pepe was a miniature deer head chihuahua he passed away when he was blindsided by a car when he was running across the street to go play with his friend. I think of all the ways it could have been avoided but unfortunately he’s gone he’s missed by everyone had a wonderful personality he reminded me of a little old man he pranced he looked he ran around and circled so fast he wondered why he didn’t hit the building on Halloween I was going to have him be Freddy Krueger paint his nails silver he was absolutely great we all miss him he was my buddy, along with everybody else’s. It was number one in his life but there was a number two and that was my best friend Raquel and that was his girlfriend I mean it was crazy he was so possessive of her this little guy had so much fun and character I’m definitely a Chihuahua fan definitely he won my heart.
I’m so sorry you lost your little guy Marcela. He sounded like an awesome little dog.
No.
No what Michael?
Chihuahua are cute.π
Prior to owning chi’s I had always had large breed dogs, almost always they were German Shepherds. Now don’t get me wrong I still love that breed as much as I always have but when I became the momma to my first 3 chi’s I couldn’t believe how smart, loving, caring, and funny they were. Unfortunately I now only have just the one Chi left, his name is Peanut, he is such a part of my β€οΈ now that I can’t imagine life without him. He has been by my side now for approximately 7-8 years. He is the love of my life!!!!
In addition, thank you for the invite to join your club. I’m looking forward to being a part of it, as is Peanut!!!!
Thanks for joining us Roberta!
For some reason, I’m not getting posts. Also tried twice to post a pic. I’ve been a member for a while. What’s going on?
Do you mean you aren’t getting the newsletters? I just looked you up on my list and it looks like you just joined so look for the newsletter on Friday.
As for the photo, you can put it on this site anymore. The plugin I was using that allowed it no longer works and I haven’t found a good replacement for it yet.
You can always email me your photo at cathy@ilovemychi.com and I can put your chi on our list to be chi of the week in an upcoming newsletter (just tell me your chi’s name and add anything else you’d like to say about your pup).
If you’d rather have your photo on the Facebook page instead, just let me know in the newsletter.
Hi
Hello this Fiona Jacobsen
Hi Fiona.
